FAQ

Jackson? Jackson Hole? What’s the difference?

Jackson Hole (named after a 19th century beaver trapper, Davy Jackson) refers to the entire valley at the base of the Teton Range. Exact definitions vary, but the overall valley is nearly 80 miles long and 15 miles wide, beginning just south of Yellowstone National Park in the north and meandering SSW, narrowing to the width of the Snake River at Munger Mountain at the southern end of the valley. The Town of Jackson lies at the southern edge of Jackson Hole. Note that “Town” usually refers to the Town of Jackson while “the Village” usually refers to Teton Village. The Jackson Hole website has a great map of the valley and other first-timer info for those of you who are visual learners. The towns of Jackson, Teton Village, Moose, Wilson, and Kelly all lie within the boundaries of Jackson Hole.

SHould i stay in the town of jackson or teton village?

We highly recommend staying in Teton Village, which is located 12 miles northwest of the Town of Jackson and 30 minutes from the Jackson Hole Airport. The majority of our wedding weekend events will be taking place in and around the Village, so many of them will be within walking distance if you are staying there. Transportation will be provided to the ceremony and reception on Saturday, originating from Teton Village. We will post a final transportation schedule later in the summer!

What’s the weather in Jackson Like iN Early october? talk to me.

Ok, the answer to this is pretty much the answer to every question in life: it depends. Jackson weather is notoriously unpredictable; it can snow in July and be 80 degrees in early October. One thing that’s for certain—it will be chilly at night, so plan accordingly. That said, it’s a high altitude, arid climate, so the historical average monthly rainfall is just over 1” for both September and October. In other words, if it rains, it won’t rain much, and it will be over quickly. The average daily high for October 5th is 63 degrees; the low 27 degrees. Record high is 82, low of 12. Did we mention anything is possible? Count on temps in the low 60s during the day and hovering around freezing at night. Perfect fall weather. Bring a sweater or three.

And you’re getting married outside in this weather? Are you nuts?

Yes, fall is the most romantic time of year and so the ceremony will be outdoors, with a spectacular view of Teton Range in the distance. The ceremony begins at 4:30 pm, which should be the warmest time of the day—just in case, we’ll have hand warmers and blankets. But please dress accordingly! Not to worry though, our reception will be held in a heated tent, so you will be warm and cozy for the duration of the evening.

What exactly will altitude do to me?

The town of Jackson lies 6,237 feet above sea level, nearly 1,000 feet higher than the Mile High City of Denver. The elevation at the top of the tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is 10, 450 feet. If you’re not prepared or over-exert yourself, mild altitude sickness is a real possibility. This is basically like having a hangover, so it’s not much fun. We recommend you drink plenty of water on the flight out and during your first 24 hours here. Take it easy on the physical exertion and go easy on the cocktails—though high altitude does not in fact increase the potency of alcohol, the decreased oxygen at altitude can exacerbate feelings of light-headedness. Go slow and hyrdate!

Dress code?

Jackson is a very casual, laid back kind of place, but this is a wedding people—let’s look sharp! For Thursday and Friday evenings, dressy casual attire is totally fine (collared shirts for men; ladies, you got this). Feel free to come as you are from the airport to the Cowboy Bar on Thursday evening. For the ceremony and reception on Saturday, we’ll jazz it up a little and go with “Wyoming Chic.” What does that mean? Up to you, but probably a jacket (tie optional) for gentlemen and cocktail dresses (recommend long sleeves, a jacket, or shawl too!) or dress pants & sweaters for ladies. If you can pull off dressy jeans with your look, go for it! One more note for the ladies: the ceremony and reception are on grass, so we highly recommend flats or wedges.

What transportation is provided?

Transportation originating from Teton Village will be provided to and from the ceremony and reception site. As we finalize more details, we will update this website with a complete transportation schedule for the weekend. Check back later in the summer!

What about kids?

While we love your kids, the evening events are primarily designed for adults—we want you to have a night or two off to hang out with us! If you do wish to bring your kids, local outfit Jackson Hole Babysitting has quite a good reputation in town.

Will I see a Moose? What about a bear?

Probably! Moose are everywhere. Bears will still be around in October. You will see elk and eagles too. If you go hiking, you MUST bring bear spray. As a general reminder, speed limits are strictly enforced and you should generally drive with care given the large amount of wildlife you are sharing the roads with, especially at night!

Who did the pretty drawings?
